Year three of the great triathlon hobby.

So, what’s this year all about. This is all about trying to get to Australia! Last year was a bit of a wash-out in the end – with force gale winds, terrential rain. That was then and this is now. So, what’s on for the year – there’s 4 races entered and one hopefully to be entered – the 2009 world championships in Australia (just a 40minute drive from my brother!). It’s my 40th this year, so this is my 40th treat! Now, wouldn’t it be soooo good to get there and have my folks cheering me along – what a birthday present that would be……

My first 2 races will be in England, the next 2 in Canada, and then hopefully the final one in Australia – so if all goes to plan, I’ll be racing in 3 continents in both hemispheres – ooooo!

A note about the maps. I’ll be putting maps up of each of the locations as and when I can. The swimming will be in blue, cycling in red, and the run in yellow. Each map will have a link so that you can click on it to open a Google maps page.

Oh, and yes, most of the triathlon websites are still rubbish, but they are getting better.

First race of the season. This is a sprint distance triathlon – 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. It’s a qualifier for the world championships as well. They’ll be 4 spots available in this race for the age group that I’m in.

Steve is also doing this race.

This is the first Olympic distance triathlon of the year, which comprises 1500m swim, 40k bike and 10k run. It’s the world championship qualifier for the Olympic distance triathlon, and again they’ll be 4 spots foe each age group (I’m 40-44). This is the main one for me, as this is the race I want to do in Australia….

This will be second ever race in Canada – the first being my first one ever a couple of years back now. This again is Olympic distance, 1500 swim, 40k bike and 10k run. It’s quite a high class field that race here, with quite a few elites (top class/ pros) racing. It’s the Brisith Columbia provincial championships too, so should be a good race! Julie will also be racing here, so that should be great fun….
