Well I’m turning into a bit of a mountain-man (well, a mountain man without a clue) as this is the second time in two days that I’ve been out in the hills until dusk. Bob and I met up at Freshies this lunch time and after a fair bit of faffing (from both of us), we headed up to a creek not far from the house. This is the creek that contains all of the waterfalls that saw me climbing up a fall the other week. Well that was just an appetiser for today as we climbed fall after fall after fall. I’ve included pictures of eight of them, but there were others that we didn’t have time to stop for, of and a fantastic canyon area.
The water this time of year is really low; the snow run-off having dissipated a couple of months ago. This alowed us to climb much more easily than would be the case in, say, June. The trip would have been impossible in May because the creek would have been in spate.
So, the clambering upon rocks was great fun. Mind you the climb out of the creek valley was difficult because it was loose shale, and when I say loose, some of it was positively dangerous! I don’t know what the slope was but it looked almost vertical from the bottom. Anyway, we made it out safely, and managed to not encounter any bears on the long walk back to the car – always a good thing even if Bob did have his bear spray.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the pictures, I’ll try to find some lake reflections ore something next time, and of course, the leaves will be changing colour when I get back from Oz. Oh, and then there’s Oz of course! Bob and I have agreed to look at one more set of falls before, er, Fall, but we believe that we pretty much have them covered technique-wise now.
You can view the photos below (obviously), or have a go at viewing them, and the locations they were taken in, in Google Earth by downloading the Waterhfall Photos kmz file. You’ll need Google Earth to view this file. Let me know how you get on with this file

jase, they’re stunning! I LOVE “The Churn” – there’s quite a few that are just simply superb!
At least that explains where you were – I was getting worried
Glad you had a good day
xx
Hey Cath – how’s it going? Training hard?
I went swimming 3 times last week – twice before work plus running yesterday and today. The exercise bike keeps looking at me as well… I feel like almost a triathlete!
Jase – lovely pix as always, they make me wish I could dabble my toes although I bet they are a bit fresh – have you sold any yet?
Certainly was a bit fresh – I nearly fell in a couple of times, and of course climbing the things involves getting pretty wet. As you are climbing up the creek you can tell when a big fall is coming up because the air starts getting cold. The same thing happened when Cath and I were in Alaska and we drove towards a glacier – now that was cool!
Ahh, you worry too much, it’s not like we were climbing waterfalls in twilight – oh, perhaps we were… :O
Where were swimming flo – that flag does not look British!
Beautiful pics Jason – will you add some to your website?
Woo hoo for you Flo – I think we may well have another triathlete in the making here – your family will never forgive me! Training’s going well. Neil lives just a 5 min bike ride from a wonderful outdoor 50m pool, which is just superb. It is warm but about the same as Canada (although it is their Spring!) – the humidity’s a little higher though! I resemble something that just got out of the shower when I’ve finished biking or running – so lots of drinking of water is called for.
Got a session to do this morning, then the rest of the day off, so I’m going to head into Cleveland for the day and have a little wander around I think.
Looking forward to everyone coming over too – L&S on 31 Aug, M&D on 5 Sept and then my wonderful husband Jase on the 9th Sept – yehay!
xx
The link with Google Earth for your pix makes it more interesting, knowing where you took them…
Cath, you are a bad influence on F. She is fast disappearing, I was over at theirs the other week, she could hide behind a crisp then!!!!
F, how’d you get the Swedish flag then…?
We usually get that here on the coast.
An easy way of getting the Swedish flag is to take the East Coast Main Line somewhere. They have wifi, and if you log onto the Google page it all comes up in Swedish. Threw me the first time I saw it!
