I seem to remember a statistic a long time ago that London traffic has travelled at about 12mph since Victorian times. Probably with the congestion charge in place the speed has picked up by .1 or .2mph, but I doubt it’s much more.
Cath uses various methods to get from Islington to her office in Victoria, each takes on average a different amount of time to get there.
- 25 minutes – biking
- 38 minutes – running
- 40 minutes – tube
- 75 minutes – bus (rush hour)
I think the distance is about 4 miles or so.

Ah, the joys of London buses in rush hour. It always amused me when colleagues boarded the bus at Liverpool Street station to get to London Bridge – they’d stare at me as if I was mad when I told them I was walking to the office (it’s about a 15 minute walk). And I’d try not to look too smug when I arrived before they did
Well, looking at the times, the bus isn’t an option. I thought the tube would have been quicker than that.

So biking it is then, and you said Cath doesn’t/didn’t get any training in.
8 miles or so daily on a bike must keep her in trim!
(that’s more miles a day than you get in all week nipping to Sainsbury’s.
